Secience Trip

P3/4 went on a visit to Murrayfield Ice rink as part of their science topic. We were taken to the plant room where we saw where the water is carried in large pipes to and from the ice rink. We also saw the big machine that smoothes the ice and fills in any gaps. The manager showed us the different types of skates used for different activities. It was all very interesting.

Working Hard!

Primary 1B are very much in to the swing of things for our upcoming Nativity performance – The McTivity. We have been learning lots of Scots words from the scripts and songs and got to put these in to context with our recent visit from Elaine Webster from the Scottish Language Dictionaries group as part of our Book Week Scotland activities.

We also enjoyed a lovely visit from Rachel Bliss of the Dog’s Trust during that week to tell us all about being responsible around dogs. We finished off by having our Buddies from P7 read us our final story from our Book Bug Pack that has now been sent home. Our efforts to promote a love of books amongst P1B continues in earnest.

Other interesting activities we have undertaken recently came from our Inter Disciplinary Learning. Through the different curricular areas we investigated Autumnal changes, Autumn Harvest Festivals, Diwali and Day and Night. Each of these topics flowed together as one area led to the next and the children were able to link what they had learnt. The photos show us hard at work investigating Diwali through Art and Mathematics as well as R.E. We particularly enjoyed creating Rangoli Patterns. The story of Rama and Sita was also investigated through Talking and Listening and the P7 Buddies supported us in this, helping create silhouette pictures of the Diwali story against autumnal coloured backgrounds.

The next few weeks will be taken up with our preparations for Christmas…

The Golden Ticket – P5/6 visit Dynamic Earth!

Thursday the 12th November was a great day for our class. We travelled through time, we explored the rainforest, we learned all about the stars and just how much Earth Matters! Here are a few comments from the class.
“I think it was the best day I have had this year! I learned so much about the animals in the rainforest. I thought the best part for me was the Dome Show, it was amazing!” Praise P5/6
“I liked the huge ice block. I thought it might have been fake but it was actually real.” George P5/6
“It was absolutely incredible! I had never been there before and I learned a lot!” Edward P5/6
“It was really interesting, especially the Dome Show, I thought it was outstanding. I would recommend a visit to Dynamic Earth to all my family and friends!” Connor P5/6
“I enjoyed all of the visit and I think that the shaky volcano was the best because it was so realistic!” Ela P5/6
“The ice block was amazing because it seemed like you were really in a very cold country!” Szymon P5/6
“I especially enjoyed when we travelled to the age of the dinosaurs. I went home and taught my Mum and Dad all I had learned” Franek P5/6
